Meta Bauer

Meta Bauer, 84, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Meta was born April 13, 1930 in Niedersachsen, Germany. She immigrated to the United States in 1950. She married John Henry Bauer on September 26, 1954 in Corona, NY, and settled in North Babylon, NY, where they raised their 5 children. John preceded her in death in 1972. Meta enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, and cooking. She was well known for her lasagna, butter cake and homemade bread. She loved flowers, birds and all things young. Meta was known for being an independent spirit who enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Doris Elaine Bauer; and her siblings, Freida, Martha, Bruno, Max, Ellie, and Sigmund. She is survived by her children, John Albert Bauer of Quincy, Carol Ann (Thomas Brozoski) Bauer of Springfield, Susan (husband, Scott) Trager of Cortlandt Manor, NY, and Lois (husband, Kevin) Cavallo of East Haddam, CT; three grandchildren, Samuel Trager, Matthew Cavallo, and Andrea Mikels; and siblings, Lena Mahlstedt and Rheinhold Boettcher, both of Germany. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following private family ceremonies.
