Michael  was a funny, passionate, caring person and a loyal and protective friend.  He was a great story teller and leader. He knew what was really going on and had strong opinions about what should be going on. I loved Michael for being such an enthusiastic supporter and adviser. We both were successful at keeping each other out of trouble with other administrators. I miss him dearly. Joe Murphy

To Mr. Jacobson's family, 
I was so sad when I heard of him passing.  He was my 5th grade teacher in the late 60s...and was my favorite teacher of all time!  Not only was he passionate about us as kids (although he treated us like adults!)...but he was passionate about his "girls."  We heard so much about his family.   He was funny, heart-warming, enthusiastic and truly was interested in making sure we did our best and didn't "mail it in."   We re-connected as adults...but it's been decades.  It was such a pleasure to visit with him.  I actually have a home nearby to where he lives now...I am so saddened to think we were so close and didn't know.  My thoughts and prayers to his family. Mike was my good friend and colleague.  He was always full of humor and always fully dedicated.  I am shocked that he left us so soon.  There is hole there, where once there was a smile and delicious life. Loved him.

Dr. Jacobson was one of my professors at WIU.  I learned so much from him about teaching, but also life in general.  He truly cared about each and every one of his students and will be greatly missed!!!

My condolences to Michael's family. I learned of his passing in Australia and could not help remembering the number of Fall days we had passionate talks about football. All conversations with Michael were passionate; especially the political ones. He was my chairperson for many years at Appalachian State during which time he was a fair, supportive  and encouraging administrator and colleague. Mr. Jacobson believed in me at a time when I did not believe in myself as a young 5th grader attending a public school for the first time in 1971.  I will keep singing because of him too!  :)  You see, in class after reciting the pledge of allegiance, students would then sing The Star-Spangled Banner.   Mr. Jacobson would walk amongst the students carrying his famous, green plastic cave man's club.  He stopped to listen to me sing.  He touched my desktop with his club and said, "YOU will join Glee Club!", and I did.  He gave me the confidence to be in a regular classroom despite my physical challenge.  He inspired me to believe in myself and to sing for enjoyment publicly.  I will remember him and love him with all my heart always.

Jennifer, I am saddened to hear of the passing of your father. I was privileged to be working in the Science Center in Horrabin Hall at Western Illinois University when he was Chair of the ELED department. What a wonderful man, with a great sense of humor and limitless energy. My prayers go out to your entire family.

My condolences to his family on the passing of Mr. Jacobson. He was my 5th grade teacher at North Country in 1976 and was my absolute favorite! What a wonderful man he was - he truly cared for his students. Forty years later and I still remember some of the conversations I had with him and how he treated each student like they were the only one in the class. Please know what a lasting impact he had not only on my life, but on all of his students over the years. He was truly a blessing.

I am so sorry to hear of your deep loss.  Michael welcomed me into the RCOE family at Appstate.  His early recommendation opened doors for me.  I fondly remember connecting with him at services through the Boone Jewish Community, now Temple of the High Country.  A mensch, scholar, and friend. May his life be a blessing. I am so sorry for your loss. I had Michael for social studies in 1970 and he and Mr. Gilvarry were the best teachers I ever had. He really cared about us. He also expected a lot including the famous "50 state report". I was able to contact Michael a couple of years ago and let him know how much he meant to me. He not only knew who I was but he remembered what neighborhood I lived in! Amazing man. He will be missed.

Dear wife and daughters of Mr. Michael Jacobson, I am so sorry for your loss of his presence in your family. I was a student at North Country Elementary School, Stony Brook, NY in the '70's. I have great admiration and appreciation for the positive impact "Mr. Jacobson" made upon my physically-challenged, eldest sister when she was mainstreamed into his 5th grade class in '71. He genuinely, actively cared about her success and self-esteem.  For this I will always be grateful.  He even went so far as to re-establish contact with her in recent years.  I wanted you to know the above.  My prayers are for comfort and healing for each of you during this time.

I join you in mourning the loss of a great and influential man. Mr. Jacobson was my 5th grade teacher around 1966.  I have never forgotten his kindness to me, nor the influence he had on my life. I am a teacher because of him.

Your continual warm concern for ASU faculty, staff and students will be fondly remembered always, always, Michael.  You were our caring department chairperson in Curriculum & Instruction for more years than we deserved.

  We are mourning that you left us so soon. We will do an occasional anonymous good deed for children and smile and think, "Yes, that is for Michael."
