Michael "Mick" A. Wasilewski

He was born on November 22, 1941, in Springfield, IL, the son of Alex and Anna (Gillespie) Wasilewski. Michael married Marilou Waite on January 16, 1965, in Prophetstown, IL. She preceded him in death, on January 30, 2023.

Michael graduated from Athens High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Western IL University. He went on to work as a teacher and principal at Portland Grade School and later taught and coached at Erie Middle School, retiring in 1994. Michael was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He loved working on odd jobs after retirement, volunteering at church and hospitals, fishing, hunting, and watching sports.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Michael is survived by his daughter, Marissa (Michael) Moss of Bloomington; sons, Michael (Althea) Wasilewski of Naperville, and Matthew (Brenda) Wasilewski of Sheffield; grandchildren, Malia and Marin Moss, and Alaina, Ryan, and Audra Wasilewski; and siblings, Andrew (Elaine) Wasilewski of Marquette, MI and Barb (Morris Wilcoxon) Harrison of Athens.

Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, prior to services.

Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield, followed by the Ceremony at 11:00 a.m.

Inurnment will be held at Calvary Cemetery, at a later date.
