

Michael Joseph Smith, 46, of Springfield, died at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center. Michael was born November 5, 1957 in Springfield the son of Clyde J. and Marian E. Stevens Smith. He married Kris Carter January 30, 1980 in Springfield. Mr. Smith received his associates degree from Quincy Technology. He was a self employed contractor and worked for Henson Robinson Company for three years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chatham, Knights of Columbus Council #4179, Chatham Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. He coached the Prairie Strikers Girls Soccer Team and helped coach the Glenwood JV Girls Soccer Team. He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents. He is survived by his wife: Kris of Springfield; three daughters: McKenzie Ann Smith of Springfield, Morgan Michelle Smith of Springfield, Erin Gillenwaters of Grand Junction, CO; one grandson Cole; father: Clyde J. Smith of Ft. Myers, FL; three sisters: Barbara Reed Alexander (husband, Thomas) of Springfield, Suzanne Link of Springfield, Kristin (husband, Rick) Walbert of Rochester; two brothers: Clyde Jay (wife, Cheryl) Smith of Henderson, AR, James “Buzz” (wife, Brenda) Smith of Springfield; three aunts, one uncle, several nieces and nephews, cousins and his black lab, Mia. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield with Rev. Robert Franzen officiating. A visitation will follow funeral services from 12-4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30 2004 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Cremation will be accorded by the Cremation Tribute Center following visitation.
