Nancy E. Bruce

Nancy E. Bruce, 55, of Springfield, formerly of Virden, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2014, at St. John's Hospital. Nancy was born on September 17, 1958, in Pekin, IL, the daughter of Beverly " Scotty" and Ednamae (Riley) Bruce. Nancy graduated from Virden High School in 1976, she went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education in 1980 from Western Illinois University. Nancy worked as a teacher for Springfield Public School Dist. #186 from 1989-2012, she later worked for Yankee Candle Co at the White Oaks Mall from 2012-present. She was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church. Nancy had a deep love for reading, she was never found without a book close by, she enjoyed cooking, making outfits and crafts for her daughter, and she loved taking her nieces and nephews to Disney Movies.

Nancy is survived by her parents, her daughter Elizabeth Dixon and family, her brothers; David (Beverly) Bruce and family of Springfield, and T.J. (Patty) Bruce and family of Riverton, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, near family friends; Dale Dixon, Cora Morris and Amanda (Mike) Finley-Mercer and family.

A funeral service officiated by Rev. Chuck Goodman will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at 11 am at Hope Presbyterian Church, 2211 Wabash Ave. Springfield, IL, 62704. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until the time of service at the church.

Those who wish may leave a memorial in Nancy's name to Hope Presbyterian Church Springfield, IL or to First Presbyterian Church in Virden, IL.
