

Norma Jean Thompson, 78, of Sherman, died at 1:08 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at St. John's Hospital. Norma was born April 24, 1934, the daughter of Raymond and Irene Cole Burgar. She married Berwyn I. Thompson on March 28, 1953 in Springfield. Norma graduated from Feitshans High School and worked for Horace Mann for 30 years in the Central Control Unit. She also worked for Franklin Life and the State Department of Motor Vehicles prior to working for Horace Mann. She was a member of the Golden Retiree Club at Horace Mann and earned the Eastern Region Excellence Award. Norma was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed cooking, crocheting, crafting, reading, watching hummingbirds, and taking photos. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Thompson; sister, Clara Wanless; six brothers, Larry, Raymond, Richard, James, Russell, and John. She is survived by her husband, Berwyn Thompson of Sherman; two sons, Gary (Diane) Thompson of Sherman, Greg (Susan) Thompson of Buffalo; daughter, Sandy (Matt) Harris of Warsaw, MO; five grandchildren, Christopher (Ambriel) Thompson of Springfield, Erica (Thomas III) Christell of Riverton, Stephanie Thompson of Springfield, Amy Thompson of Springfield, and Lindsay (Anthony) Letz of Buffalo; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Judy (Gary) Jones of Springfield; daughter-in-law, Sharon Thompson of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:00-6:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield. Memorial Ceremony: 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Pastor Tom Christell, Jr. officiating.
