Patricia was born on September 15, 1935, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of C. Robert and Marie E. (Mathies) Fults.
She was a graduate of Springfield High School and Illinois College and had a master’s degree in education. Patricia dedicated 30 years to teaching special education in District #186 and, after her retirement from #186, taught reading at Christ the King School for several years. She found joy in shopping, both for herself and for others, and had a special love for holidays, especially Christmas, Easter, and Halloween. Her favorite color was white, and she liked looking at her white Christmas tree so much she just kept it up year-round. She enjoyed entertaining and for many years carried on her father’s tradition of hosting a big 4th of July party at their house on Linden Lane. She loved landscaping her yard, which is filled with peonies, daylilies, irises, tulips, hydrangeas, hostas, and whatever else struck her fancy. She was a night owl often reading and watching old British movies late into the night. She didn’t care for getting up early and never ate breakfast, but she did enjoy meeting various groups of friends for lunch or dinner. Cooking wasn’t her thing (preferring to go out to eat) but if a friend was under the weather, she would make them a pot of vegetable beef soup or a large bowl of custard – both of which she thought had special curative powers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Marie Fults; sister, Judith Fults Holcomb; brother-in-law, Larry Holcomb; and nephews, Greg and Matt Holcomb.
Patricia is survived by her niece, Jennifer (husband, William Tubbs) Johnson of Springfield; great-niece, Ling Tubbs of Chicago; and John and Laura Leahy, and their sons, Jack and Peyton, all of Springfield, who she loved like family.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
