

Pauline Josephine Thoma, 95, of Decatur, formerly of Springfield, died at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, March 12, 2006 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur. Pauline was born May 16, 1910 in Springfield the daughter of Joseph and Pauline Bea Hartmann. She married Albert C. “Bud” Thoma on July 24, 1931; he preceded her in death on March 8, 1995. Mrs. Thoma graduated from Brown’s Business College and worked for the State of Illinois, Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, until her retirement in 1977. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one grandson. Surviving are her daughter, Mary Clare Cummins of Decatur and her children Cathy Cummins of Des Plaines, Illinois, Beth (husband, Ted) Vandercar of Decatur, and David Cummins of Boise, Idaho and their father, Mike Cummins of Springfield; and her son, John (wife, Sigrid) Thoma of Thailand and his children Greg (wife, Eileen) Thoma of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Martin (wife, Melissa) Thoma of Little Rock, Arkansas, Amy (husband, Greg) Ringel of Gladstone, Missouri and David Thoma of Bryce, Utah and their mother, Julie Thoma of Fayetteville, Arkansas. She had twelve great grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2125 N. 25th St., Springfield with Rev. Mark A. Schulte celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Franciscan Brothers, P.O. Box 26022, Cincinnati, OH 45226. May she rest in the peace and the love of the Lord.
