

Philip W. Ihnen, 90, of Springfield, IL passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Veteran’s Home in Quincy, IL. He was born in Keokuk, IA on September 12, 1921 the son of George and Marie Ihnen. Phil served in World War II in the Pacific and was awarded two Bronze Stars for campaigns in the Philippines and New Guinea. He married Virginia C Shonauer on September 18, 1948 in Lincoln. They celebrated 59 years of marriage together until she preceded him in death in 2007. They were blessed with three children; Linda (Gary) Kent of Poway, CA; John (Jane) Ihnen of Rochester, IL and Jerry (Debbie) Ihnen of Springfield; grandchildren Jim, Joe, Jeff Ihnen; Eric (Andrea), Amy and Rachel Ihnen; Catherine and Charles Kent, and two great grandchildren; Calla and Claire Ihnen, also surviving are his sisters; Marian Bradley of Escondido, CA and Clara (James) Owen of Cherokee Village, AR. After retiring Mr. Ihnen enjoyed fishing and traveling through the US in a RV and wintering in Arizona, Texas, and California. He was an active member of the Choir and Group Loyal at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Visitation will be in the Parish Life Center of St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2477 W Washington St, Springfield IL from 10 am- 12 noon on Friday, February 17, a celebration of life will be immediately following the visitation at 12 noon in the church Sanctuary with Rev. Greg Busboom officiating. Private inurnment will follow at
