Phyllis F. Groves

Phyllis F. Groves, 83, of Springfield, died at 11:38 a.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center. Phyllis was born July 6, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Frederick and Jennie Perino Garelli. She married Robert I. Groves on November 24, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY. He preceded her in death in 1984. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and four brothers. Phyllis was a homemaker. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who loved her. She is survived by four sons, Robert (wife, Patricia) Groves of Buckeye, AZ, Frederick (wife, Carol) Groves of Springfield, Joseph Groves of Charlotte, NC and William (wife Teena) Groves of Springfield; two daughters, Denise Shantz of Sherman and Sharon (husband, David) Hemberger of Athens; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5:00 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. Funeral ceremonies will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Schulte officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
