

Rev. Harold Edwin Spencer, 88, of Chatham, passed from this life, to meet his Savior, Thursday, August 8 at St. John's Hospice. He was born on May 25, 1925, in Jacksonville, IL to William Earl and Alta Anderson Spencer. He was preceded in death by all his siblings, Lester, Wayne, Ralph, Gerald and Leta, and great granddaughter, Addison Lynn Deason. Harold served in the US Army during WW II. He married Evelyn Reichmann on July 12,1958. Reverend Spencer taught school for 11 years in Illinois and 1 year in Japan. He and his wife served as missionaries in the Philippines for 26 years. They are members of the Chatham Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Evelyn; daughters, Cheryl (Rex) Bell and Krista (Russ) Deason of Fort Worth, TX and Catheren (Curtis) Starner of Blackstone, IL; grandchildren, Anna Nichols (husband Jeremiah), Austin, Lauren, Emily Bell, David, Stephen (wife Ginny), and Daniel Deason, Timothy, Caleb, Micah, and Nicolas Starner; great grandchildren, Landon Deason and Clive Nichols; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and friends worldwide. His family will greet friends from 4pm until the time of services at 6pm, Tuesday, August 13, at Chatham Baptist Church. Pastor Milton Bost will officiate. There will be continued fellowship with a meal after the funeral service. Cremation rites will be accorded after the services. Burial of the urn will be at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
