

Rev. Thomas J. Davenport, 91, of Springfield, died at 12:30 a.m., Friday, September 21, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Home. Rev. Davenport was born September 5, 1916 in Chicago, the son of Thomas J. and Mary E. Terry Davenport, who preceded him death. He was ordained to the priesthood on April 5, 1942. He served as assistant in Collinsville in 1942, appointed Secretary at Chancery in 1945, assistant at St. Boniface in Edwardsville in 1946. He was then appointed administrator and Pastor at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bunker Hill in 1947. He served as Pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Villa Grove in 1959, Immaculate Conception, in Pittsfield in 1968, Ss. Simon and Jude in Gillespie in 1970, and St. Michael Catholic Church in Greenfield in 1972; Sacred Heart in Virden in 1975; St. Denis in Shipman, St John the Evangelist in Medora in 1977. He retired from the priesthood in 1993. He is survived by several cousins. The family welcomes friends to visit from 9:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence Ave., Springfield. Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with The Most Rev. George J. Lucas, D.D. principal celebrant and priests of the Springfield diocese as concelebrants. Graveside Ceremonies will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Baraboo, WI with Father Larry Bakke officiating. The family of Rev. Thomas J. Davenport is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
