Richard "Doc" Heaney, 68, of Springfield, died at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at his home. Doc was born December 4, 1949 in Harlingen, TX, the son of Howard and Louise Chapman Heaney. Doc graduated from Eastern Illinois University, and worked for the Attorney Generals Office for 32 years. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, ballroom dancing, and loved animals. When he was in high school, he was a member of the band Sting Ray in Mt. Vernon. Doc was loved by all and will be deeply missed. Doc was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by his son, Scott (Valerie) Heaney of Springfield; grandchildren, Evalynn and Elijah; and brothers, Gordon Lee Richards and Jim Heaney. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. Burial will be held at Old Shiloh Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.
