

Roy J. Bowen, 79, a resident of Springfield for forty-two years, died at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at his home. Roy was born on April 11, 1927 in Osage, KS, the son of Richard and Thelma Lock. He married Emma Richard on July 25, 1964 in Springfield. He graduated from Atchison Kansas High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was a military policeman, drove tanks and was a mechanic during his military career. He was a member of VFW Post 8157 in Auburn and also the American Legion in Auburn. He was of the Lutheran faith. He was employed as a security guard following his retirement from the military. Roy was preceded in death by one son, his parents, three sisters and one brother. He is survived by his wife, Emma Bowen of Springfield; four sons; two daughters; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother, Hirm Bowen of Louisville, KY and several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and great nephews. The family welcomes friends to visit from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Ceremony at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield with Rev. Bill Woodruff, officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Department of Defense and the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County. Memorial contributions may be made to a Charity of Donor’s Choice in memory of Roy J. Bowen.
