Royal J "Roy" Hinds

Roy was born on December 17, 1939, the son of Royal Renz and Madge Americus (Traylor) Hinds. He married Nancy Elaine Balster on August 17, 1963 in Springfield. Nancy preceded him in death on October 7, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his parents and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Roy graduated from Lanphier High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Sangamon State University (now University of Illinois Springfield).

Roy started his career at Crown Transit Lines. He retired after 37 years from Illinois Department of Revenue as an auditor in the Corporate Tax Compliance Division.

Roy valued his family time and helped raise his children and grandchildren, always being an exemplary role model. He enjoyed fishing, traveling (sometimes from his armchair), reading, hunting, and baking bread. Roy spent many years perfecting his woodworking skills and displaying his crafts at Clayville Historic Site festivals.

Roy was a member of the Springfield Civic Garden Club and a charter member of the Springfield Bicycle Club. He served as a board member in several local organizations.

Roy was a longtime faithful member of the Abraham Lincoln Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Springfield.

Surviving are his two daughters, Glenda (Frank) Pedraza and Royale Anne Hinds, both of Springfield; three grandchildren, Alexander (Lindsey) Pedraza of Punta Gorda, FL, Andrew (Tania) Pedraza and Teagan Hinds, all of Springfield; great-grandson, Parker Pedraza of Punta Gorda, FL; brother, Daniel (Sara) Hinds of El Paso, IL; and a niece, several nephews, and many cousins.

Cremation Rites will be accorded. The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date.
