He was born on October 8, 1963 in Drew, MS, the son of the late Sammy Wells II and Emma Jean (Smith). He married Arianna Brown in Springfield and she survives.
Sammy served in the U.S. Army and was a disabled veteran. He enjoyed working in the yard and being outside, and he especially loved spending time with his grandkids.
Besides his wife Arianna, he is survived by his children, Sammy Wells II of Chicago, IL, Chaunce Wells of Rockford, IL, Chad (wife Alana) DeVose of Texas, Chansz Wells of Springfield, Chasz Wells of South Korea, and Dominick Lurks of Springfield; his grandchildren, Jamar Edwards, Helena Powell, Jeremiah Powell, Kaiden Powell, Chaszen Coffee, Chaunce Wells, Jr., Abram DeVose, and Abbi DeVose; and his sister Henrietta Brinson of Calumet Park, IL.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, Springfield, IL. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023 at 2:30 pm at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Rd., Elwood, IL 60421.
