
Samuel H. Murphy, 65, of Springfield, passed away at 5:59 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Memorial Medical Center. Samuel was born May 12, 1936 the son of George Scott and Helen Parkins Murphy in Minneapolis, MN, raised in Wausau, WI. He married Telia “Teal” Seton in 1964 in Wisconsin. Mr. Murphy was a graduate with a MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He retired in 1998 after 36 years of services with the Social Security Administration. He came to Springfield in 1976 as the Area Director of Area Eight Chicago Region Five for SSA. He was also a woodworker and recognized as an Illinois Artisan with his woodwork on exhibit for sale at State of Illinois Shops across Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife: Telia “Teal” of Springfield; four children: Lisa (husband, Richard) Wheeler-Burnette of Washington, IL, Regina (husband, Jim) Thompson of Salem, IL, Christopher E. (wife, Shawn Lea) Murphy of Eugene, OR, Karen Ruth Murphy of Springfield and nine grandchildren. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 2-3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2002.
