Shirley M. Bernstein, 79, of Springfield, died at 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at St. John's Hospital Hospice. Shirley was born December 5, 1932 in Springfield, the daughter of Charles H. and Susie Pritchard Akers. She married Lawrence Bernstein on November 18, 1966 in Jacksonville. Shirley was a graduate of Feitshans High School and worked for seven years as a department manager for Zayre's. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Terry Armstrong; and two daughters, Sammy Jo Lorschneider and Sherry L. Armstrong. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Bernstein of Springfield; three children, Michael, Shirley and Larry J. Bernstein, all of Springfield; and seven grandchildren, AmArie Sebens, and Geneva Ann, Wyett M., Jaydon, Tristein, Melanie Bernstein and Conner Burger, all of Springfield. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
