Sonja Susanne Estes

Sonja Susanna Estes, 64, passed away at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2002 at her residence. Sonja was born January 10, 1938 in Springfield the daughter of Lewis W. and Julianna M. Burchik Umbenhower. Sonja was a graduate of Ursuline Academy, attended Lincoln Land Community College and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. She was an Account Technician I at the Department of Human Services for the State of Illinois. She was a member of American Business Womans Association, Lincolnland Chapter and the AARP. She is preceded in death by her father: Lewis Umbenhower; brother: Lewis “Buzzy” Umbenhower and stepfather: John J. Cook. She is survived by her mother: Julianna M. Cook of Springfield; daughter: Juliann S.(husband, David) Powell of Springfield; two grandsons: David and Andrew Powell both of Springfield; one granddaughter: Ashley Powell of Springfield; one sister: Alix Means of Springfield; two half brothers: Michael (wife, Joann) Gabriel of Seminole, Florida, Julian Gabriel of Colorado; two stepbrothers: John (wife, Joyce) Cook, Jr. of Texas, Edward (wife, Barbara) Cook of Springfield; one aunt; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 5-8:00 p.m.Tuesday, December 17, 2002. Funeral services will be at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Reverend Rev. Paul Hardway officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will perform military honors.
