

Sister M. Jeannette McGrath, OP, 94, died on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at the Dominican Sisters Motherhouse, Springfield. Sr. Jeannette was born in Springfield on March 21, 1914 to James and Jeannette (Hohenstein) McGrath. A 1931 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, she professed her religious vows in 1934. Sr. Jeannette taught and/or administered in Catholic parish elementary schools in the Chicago archdiocese and in the Peoria, Rockford and Springfield dioceses (Our Saviour, Jacksonville and St. Mary, Mt Sterling). She taught high school at Sacred Heart Academy (SHG), Springfield; Bergan (Notre Dame), Peoria; Rosary, Aurora; and Marian, Chicago Heights. Sr. Jeannette was principal at St. Augustine's, Richmond, MI. In 1996 Sister retired to the motherhouse. She enjoyed needlework, crafts, reading, classical music, and puzzles. Sr. Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents; and her three sisters, Springfield Dominicans Sr. M. Marita and Sr. M. Edwardine and her Frankfort Franciscan sister, Sr. Madonna. She is survived by her brother, Joseph (Bud) McGrath of Springfield and by her Dominican Sisters with whom she lived for 76 years. Visitation will be from 3:30 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Convent Motherhouse, 1237 W. Monroe, Springfield. A vigil service will take place at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2008 at Sacred Heart Convent with Rev. Peter Witchousky, OP presiding. The Final Commendation and Burial Service will follow with burial at Calvary Cemetery.
