Steven Walter Rufus, 49, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at St. John's Hospital. Steven was born July 16, 1959 in Springfield, the son of Walter, Jr. and Marilyn Brown Rufus. Steven graduated from Lanphier High School before dedicating twenty-nine years on the Department of Revenue staff. He was a member of the National Rifle Assoc., IL State Rifle Assoc., and Abe Lincoln Gun Club. Steven was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved cars; especially his red Corvette and Dodge HEMI Charger. He was a hard worker with a big heart who loved his family and spoiled his chocolate lab, Bo. Preceding Steven in death are his grandparents. He is survived by his parents, Walter and Marilyn Rufus Jr. of Springfield ; a sister, Debbie (husband, Dale) LaRocca of Springfield; two nieces, Jenny (husband, Zak) Gurnsey of Chatham and Amanda LaRocca of Springfield; nephew, Jason LaRocca of Springfield; two great-nieces, Lydia Grace and Emma Kay Gurnsey. Private family ceremonies were held.
