

Stuart Wayne Hunt, 75, lifelong resident of Springfield, died at 12:18 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at his residence. Stuart was born November 17, 1933 in Springfield, the son of Ralph Stewart and Cora Marie Groves Hunt. He married Mary Ann Ludwig on October 27, 1956 in Springfield. She survives him. Stuart attended Feitshans High School. He worked as a switchman for the IL Central Railroad and as a barber at Brown's Barber Shop. He later went to work for the Springfield Fire Department from where he retired. He also owned and operated The Shack Restaurants in Springfield, managed Turasky's Catering and The Livery in downtown Springfield. Stuart was instrumental in co-founding the Ursuline Academy Chicken Dinner Fundraising Program. Stuart was a member of Kiwanis Club, Land of Lincoln Barbershop Chorus, Firefighter's Lake Club and Springfield Firefighters Union Local #37. He was a board member for the Villa Angela Home. Stuart was also a foster parent for Catholic Charities. He enjoyed watching his grandkids' sporting events and sharing other special times with them at family gatherings, playing golf and cooking. Stuart was also an avid train collector and did a lot of volunteer work at Goodwill and schools. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jeanette Hunt. He is also survived by his four daughters, Shawn (husband, Michael) Moore of Overland Park, KS, currently residing in Milan, Italy, Mary Ann (husband, Joseph) Bull, Colleen, (husband, Bryce) Payne and Amy (husband, Bradley) Jackson, all of Springfield; three sons, Stuart (wife, Gail) Hunt II of Girard, Charles (wife, Karen) Hunt and Ralph (wife, Lisa) Hunt, both of Springfield; 16 grandchildren, Brianna and Jillian Moore, Sonya Hill, Stephanie Hunt, Hayley and Tara Bull, Charles Hunt II, Krissy and James Buragas, Kyle and Heather Payne, Derek, Gabrielle and Jenna Jackson, and Ryan Stuart and Landon James Hunt; four great grandchildren, Hunter, Jacob and Rilyn Hill and Ava Marie Carver; two brothers, Monte (wife, Madelyn) Symons of Falling Waters, WV and Raymond (wife, Linda) Symons of Corpus Christi, TX; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 4:00 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Springfield Firefighters Local #37 will post their honor guard during the visitation. Funeral ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at St. Joseph Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga, V.F., celebrant.
