Tom was born in Petersburg, IL, January 6, 1936 the son of Lee Earl and Florence (Keen) McDougall. Tom enlisted and served in the United States Marine Corp earning the rank of Corporal. He earned the National Service Defense Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.
Tom returned to Petersburg where he began his career in the newspaper industry with the Petersburg Observer. He moved to Springfield to continue his career as a printer with the State Journal Register and served there until his retirement in 1998. He married Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Nawn at West Side Christian Church June 1, 1962 and she survives.
He is also survived by his children: Larry (Dana) McDougall of Chesterfield, MO and Diane (Sam) Moore of Springfield, his four grandchildren: Evan, Braden and Anna Moore, and Jillian (John) Nelson, two great grandchildren; Joah and Jace Nelson, his brother, Ed (JoAnne) McDougall of Petersburg, IL his sister, Edie Harris of Beardstown and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and two sisters, Marian “Mickey” Bown and Jannette Moore preceded him in death.
Tom was a faithful and active member of South Side Christian Church where he served as a deacon for several years. He was a member of the International Typographical Union. Tom loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting. Tom was especially appreciative to be able to experience the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight to Washington DC.
Arrangements are in the care of Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, IL where the family will greet friends from 4-7 pm Wednesday, December 8, 2021 and where his funeral service will be held at 10 am Thursday December 9, 2021 with Pastor Brooks Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Greenview, IL. Military Honors will be conducted by the Department of Defense.
