William "Bill" "Popo" L. Bolin

William L. “Bill” “Popo” Bolin, 70, of Springfield died at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born on November 15, 1934 in Decatur, IL, the son of Leonard and Gail Elaine Donaldson Bolin. He married Barbara Stack of Decatur in 1956. He graduated from Decatur High School, and was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in the Korean War. He earned the National Defense Service Ribbon, China Service Medal, Korean Medal, and the UN Medal. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Springfield Motor Boat Club, Elks Lodge, Telephone Pioneers, Grasshoppers Golf league, a past officer of the Sangamo Surf Club and Bell Credit Union Board of Trustees. Mr. Bolin retired on December 31, 1991 from Ameritech where he had been employed as an engineer for 35 years. He owned and operated BRW Communications. He was an usher for the University of Illinois, and also participated in the Illinois Bell Golf League. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jerry Bolin, and one sister, Linda Sobottka. Survivors: wife, Barbara; one son, Michael (wife Stacey) Bolin of Chatham; three daughters, Sherry (husband, Dan) Secora of Galloway, OH, Debbie Rockford of Springfield, Kimberly Bolin of Springfield; seven grandchildren; Joe, Amy, Chris, Zach, Kaitlyn, Nicholas, Tyler; one sister-in-law, Patricia Schottle of Silver Springs, MD; one brother-in-law, Ray Sobottka of Decatur, several nieces and nephews, and pet beagle, Daisy. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.on Monday, March 28, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Avenue, Springfield, with Rev. Peter Harman, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler Cemetery where the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
