

William "Bill" Kyle Ewing, 78, of Sherman, passed away at 11:50 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2012 at St. John's Hospice. Bill was born June 29, 1933 in LaHarpe, IL, the son of William and Roma Long Ewing. He married Fannie Jo Silverio on November 18, 1988 in Bloomington. Bill proudly served our country in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Illinois Wesleyan College in 1958. He retired from the Illinois Department of Public Health as a supervisor after 30 years of service. Bill was active in community theater including the Muni Opera, Theatre Centre, and Mid-America Playwright Theater, where he was a board member. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Neoma Steege. He is survived by his wife, Fannie, of Sherman; his son, David (wife, Yvonne) Ewing of Springfield; three daughters, Diana (husband, Mark) Kem of Phoenix, AZ, Kathleen (husband, Donald) Staten of Springfield, and Sarah (husband, Scott) Welsh of Redlands, CA; twelve grandchildren; and one niece. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Graveside Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2012 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.
