

SPRINGFIELD – Dr. William Barker Lazarus of Springfield, IL passed away on Sunday March 20, 2016.
He was born March 31, 1932 in Jacksonville, IL, the son of Norman and Rose Barker Lazarus. He was preceded in death in 2010 by his wife of 49 years, Marjorie Lazarus. He is survived by two sons, Norman R. "Rob" of Overland Park, KS and Jonathan M. Lazarus of Denver, CO., his daughter, Elizabeth L. (husband Derrick) Burger of Winston-Salem, NC , and four treasured grandchildren, Allison Marie Lazarus, Matthew Ryan Lazarus, Alexis Rose Burger and Maxwell Hensley Burger.
Bill graduated from Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Illinois Dental School. After dental school he served his country admirably in the Air Force in Korea. Upon returning to Springfield he opened his dental practice in 1958 and practiced continuously until his retirement in 1994. For many years he also served the community of Raymond, IL by practicing one day a week in that community. Bill was a proud member of the Ansar Shriners for over 50 years as well as a Rotarian and member of the GV Black Dental Society. He was a beloved fan of The University of Illinois and an incredible husband, father, grandpa, pawpaw and friend to many.
After retirement Bill and Marjie began splitting their time between IL and Sarasota/Bradenton FL during the colder winter months. Bill adored Florida and was happiest in the sun on the water and hanging out with his grandchildren. Bill had a generous spirit and a kind heart that will be remembered forever by his family and friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen Springfield, IL where visitation will be held Tuesday, March 29 from 10:00 am until time of funeral services there at Noon. Rabbi Barry Marks and Rabbi Michael Datz officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
