

William "Billy" Matheis, 69, of Springfield, passed away at 9:05 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center. Billy was born June 18, 1941 in Springfield, the son of Walter and LaVonne Bote Matheis. He married Brenda Borman on August 4, 1981 in Las Vegas, NV. Billy was a veteran and served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Illinois Bell AT&T for 30 years before retiring in 1996. He then worked for 8 yrs before retiring in 2002 at the Dept. of Professional Regulation. He most recently worked at Piper Glen Golf Course for several years as well as serving as a shuttle train engineer at Johnson Grain. He loved spending time with his family and after his family; Billy's greatest love was golf and more importantly all of his golfing buddies. He loved every one of them dearly and felt a deep appreciation for their friendship. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Sharon Matheis. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Matheis of Springfield; three daughters, Stephanie Matheis of Springfield, LaVonne (husband, David) Kosman of Lindenhurst, IL and Rebecca (husband, Scott) Nietert of Madisonville, LA; five grandchildren, Michelle, David, Alexandra, Elizabeth and Jacob; sister, Sharon (husband, Jack) Bates of IA; brother, Thomas Matheis of IA; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Judy Woerner officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
