

William H. Workman, 89, of Springfield, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2002 at St. John’s Hospice. William was born November 13, 1912 the son of William Henry and Nellie Porter Workman in Springfield. He married Wynn Casey in November of 1946, she preceded him in death on November 25, 1991. Mr. Workman was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army, where he received the American Defense Service Ribbon, Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Hall Heckler Chapter, the National Rifle Association and a former member of the American Legion Post 32. He was Catholic and attended St. Aloysius Catholic Church. He retired from Sangamon Electric Company after 25 years of service. He later worked for the City of Springfield as a school crossing guard at Blessed Sacrament and St. Aloysius Schools. He is preceded in death by his wife; parents; step-daughter: Janet Casey Ramussen; four sisters: Elizabeth Gillette, Helen Roher, Mary Walker and Marguerite Workman; one brother: Russell Workman. He is survived by two daughters: Toni Casey (husband, Rick) Pratt of Springfield, Deborah Casey (husband, Ron) Watts of Republic, Missouri; five grandchildren: Jeffrey (wife, Faith)Tavernor, Dena Thorpe, Christina (husband, Dan) Patterson, Angie Thorpe and Mike Watts; five great grandchildren; a sister: Dorothy Workman of Springfield; close family friend: Bill Tavernor; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2002. Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home on Thursday, September 19, 2002 with Fr. John M. Titus officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will perform military honors.
