Betty was preceded in death by her beloved daughters, Sheryl Yoast Matthews and Bonnie Yoast Jeffries. She is survived by her faithful companion, Ginger, her devoted Golden Retriever; her loving daughters, Angela Yoast Garrison (husband, Rick) and Deidre Yoast Fox (husband, Jay); 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a constant source of pride and joy in her life.
A dedicated educator, Betty earned her Master’s degree in Education from Peabody College and devoted more than 27 years to teaching Physical Education in Fairfax County Public Schools and Alexandria City Public Schools. She impacted generations of students through her passion for education and her genuine care for every child she taught.
Faith was the foundation to Betty’s life. She dearly loved her church family and faithfully served in many different roles over the years. Betty was a devoted member of St. John’s United Methodist Church since 1962, where her commitment, kindness, and servant’s heart were evident to all of her church family.
Known affectionately as “Boop,” Betty’s love extended far beyond her own family. She became a second mother and often a grandmother to many. Being called “mom” or “grandma” by so many was a reflection of her generous spirit, open heart, and unwavering presence in the lives of others.
Above all else, Betty loved being with her family. Time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was her greatest joy.
Betty lived her life rooted in faith, service, and love, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and quiet grace that will continue through all who knew her.
