Clare Richter Nolan, 88, of Springfield, VA, formerly of Trenton, NJ, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2014 and is now reunited with her loving family in heaven.
Clare was the loving and devoted wife of Colonel Robert Nolan and mother of Kathy, Tim, Matt and Mike, all of whom predeceased her.
She was the daughter of the late Raymond Francis and Kathryn Beckett Richter and sister of the late Catherine Evans, Raymond Richter and Rosanne Dovgala. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Phil Manning of Corona del Mar, CA and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Clare raised her family in Virginia and was a parishioner at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. She happily volunteered at the Kennedy Center for thirty years.
Clare was that rare person you were grateful to have known. An extraordinary woman, she was known for her grace, her kindness, her ready smile and her unceasing sense of humor. Despite the burdens life imposed on her, she generously shared her life and her home with many. She was a hostess extraordinaire and DC tour guide, and her hospitality rivaled any bed-and-breakfast on the planet. Her bright spirit, devilish wit and unbounded generosity lit up the lives of those around her and she will be deeply missed.
Special thanks to her loving and devoted nieces, Terry Corrigan, Cathy Evans, and her caregiver, Susan Koomson, for being her guardian angels and watching over Clare towards the end of her life. Thanks also to Linde Howell for her friendship to Clare throughout the years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 26th at 10:30am at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Springfield, VA; interment to follow at Arlington National Cemetery at 1p.m. Arrangements are under the auspices of Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael Frances Nolan Scholarship Fund, Pratt School of Engineering, Duke University, Box 90271, Durham, NC, 27708, Attn: Pam Hanson.
