

Colonel Thomas was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the oldest of three children to Lee Thomas and Margaret Elmare Thomas. His parents and brother Gordon predeceased him.
He married Margaret Hawkins June 2, 1957, his wife’s birthday. They were married almost 66 years, she was the love of his life. They have two sons; David Lee Thomas II (Evelyn) and Michael Charles Thomas. There are 3 grandchildren – Alexandra Thomas, David Thomas III (Brittany), and Michael Thomas, Jr. (Stephanie). Two great grandchildren- Gabriel and Bellamy. He has one sister, Barbara Ann Ratcliff and two half-sisters; Cathy Beard (David) and Carol Dean. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins survive him as well.
He lived in Springfield, VA for almost forty-one years. He had many great friends and outstanding neighbors.
His military career began at Fort Story, VA and ended as Director of Inland Traffic, MTMC Headquarters, Washington, DC.
On Tuesday, June 13, everyone is asked to please be seated at Ft. Belvoir Post Chapel by 12:15 pm. On Wednesday, June 14, everyone attending is asked to be at Arlington National Cemetery by 12:15 for a 1 pm graveside service.
The family wishes to thank all their friends for their prayers, thoughtfulness, and concerns. They will be forever grateful for the love.
