Of Springfield, Virginia passed away in her home on June 5, 2020 surrounded by her devoted family and friends. Dawn was diagnosed with Upper GI Stage 4 Cancer in February 2020. She was a warrior until the very end.
Dawn, fondly nicknamed 'George' by her PawPaw, was born in Alexandria, Virginia on August 22, 1971. Dawn graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in 1990. Shortly after graduating, she began working for Pentagon Federal Credit Union in Alexandria where she met her husband, Mark A. Fetterolf, of 28 years.
Above all, Dawn was proudest of being a mother to Alyssa Brianne "Sweet Pea" Fetterolf and Hunter Thomas Fetterolf. They were her world. She was committed to volunteering at their schools and became a second Mom to their friends. When she wasn't playing the role of 'Team Mom' for their baseball and softball teams, she was volunteering for people in need. She spent her time taking the elderly to their appointments, grocery shopping, delivering meals and making blankets for the homeless.
Dawn found joy in the simplest of things--from spending time at the beach with her toes in the sand, to taking naps with her fur babies Cooper and Sadie, to making crafts and baking. She cherished family traditions--Christmas eve with the Allen’s, family reunions in West Virginia, apple and strawberry picking, pumpkin carving and spending time with her extended family, whom she treasured.
Dawn was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Oma Jean Lettner, her paternal grandfather, Claude T. Gallahan, Sr., and her beloved fur baby Cooper Fetterolf.
Dawn is survived by her husband, Mark Fetterolf; her daughter, Alyssa Fetterolf; her son, Hunter Fetterolf; her parents, Wanda Allen Gallahan and Gary "Moe" Gallahan; her brother Gary W. Gallahan Jr.; her nephew, Parker Douglas Gallahan; her sister, Sandra D. Schiattareggia; her maternal grandfather, Everett "PawPaw" Allen; her paternal grandmother, Jean Mabel Gallahan; her fur baby Sadie Fetterolf; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 12, 2020 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, Virginia, 22151 with a Celebration of Life to be scheduled for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dawn's memory to Compassus Hospice, 14900 Conference Center Drive, Suite 170, Chantilly, Virginia 20151.
Her family greatly appreciates all of the love and support from family, friends and her caregivers.
