Dorothene S Martin

Dorothene Solone Martin, affectionately known as “Dot”, fell asleep in death on June 8, 2023 at the remarkable age of 95 surrounded by her loving family at home.   Dorothene was born in Washington DC to Dorothy Kennedy and Albert Dunlop on the 12th of January 1928. She went to school in Stanardsville, VA and attended college at Virginia State University. While out one evening, bowling with a friend, she met the love of her life . She married Jesse E Martin Sr on November 9, 1957 in Washington DC in the loving home of the Chase family. They complimented each other and enjoyed a strong marriage of 62 years. Dorothene worked full time for the federal government as a secretary for 30 years all while providing a nurturing home for her husband and three children. She was involved in the local garden club for many years where she cultivated her love for flowers and plants.  Guests visiting her home enjoyed her cooking, baking and wonderful hospitality.   Dorothene Martin is preceded in death by her mother and father as well as her daughter Valois Solone Martin, her brother Al Dunlop, husband Jesse Martin SR and her cherished sister Martha Anderson.    Dorothene is survived by her eldest and beloved son Jesse E. Martin Jr and dear son Hansen Martin Sr, supportive daughter in law Michelle as well as younger brother Charles Johnson, Grandchildren Hansen Jr, Laura, and Danielle and delightful great grandchildren Elijah and Jordyn.   Ms. Dot will be remembered for her loving, sweet, mild disposition that endeared her to all whom she met. She is sorely missed and we long to see her again soon.
