

Dorothy (Dot) was born on May 22, 1927, in Farmville, Virginia, to the late Leonard Hall and Marian Taylor Hall. Dot grew up in Danville and Hampton, before graduating from Newport News High School in 1946. She started her career working for the Newport News Police Department and then the U.S. Army Transportation Training Commission at Fort Eustis, where she met her future husband, John Boyette. After marriage and the adoption of her two daughters, she happily became a full-time mother before moving to Springfield, Virginia, in 1965. Dot later returned to work with Fairfax County Public Schools and the Agency for International Development at the State Department. At the age of 70, Dot retired from the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) Program/Budget, Program and Financial Control, located at the Pentagon, leaving behind a large family of friends and co-workers. Dot then wanted to help others and volunteered at Fairfax Hospital until the age of 85. Dot was a loving and kind mother and wife who always embraced life, love, family, friendship, and faith with limitless devotion.
Dot is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, John Boyette of Springfield, Virginia; and brothers Leonard Hall, of Hampton, Virginia; Harvey Hall, of Hayes, Virginia; William Hall, of Hampton, Virginia; and Sterling Hall, of Adelphi, MD; and sister-in-law Jean Hall, of Columbia, Maryland.
Dot will be dearly missed by her daughters, Pennie (Bernie) Watts of Great Falls, Virginia, and Pamela (Kenny) Price, of Kenly, North Carolina, as well as sister-in-law Linda Hall of Hayes, Virginia; sister-in-law Theresa Hall of Hampton, Virginia; brother-in-law Charles (Chris) Boyette of Port St. Joe, Florida, as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Dot is also survived by five grandchildren: Holly Wright, Danny Shuck, Benjamin Watts, Alison Campbell, and Lindsey Watts; and ten great-grandchildren: Marissa McGraw, Maggie Woodward, Trenton Pressley, Nikolas Woodward, Madison Griffin, Brayden Griffin, Eli Sanders, Mason Shuck, Denver Owensby, and Ella Shuck.
A visitation, funeral service, and reception for Dot will be held at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151, on Monday, September 22, 2025. A visitation will occur from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM, a funeral service will occur from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and a reception will occur from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A graveside service will occur from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA 22172.
