Edward Eugene Jackson, son of Sam and Essie Thompson Jackson, was born on July 20, 1934 in Attapulgus, GA and he departed this life on October 1, 2022. He was the youngest of eight children and at an early age, he moved with his family to Montgomery, AL. Being born in a Christian home, he confessed Christ at an early age and joined St. John’s A.M.E. Church. He moved to Newark, N.J. shortly after joining the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served his country for more than 20 years. He was stationed in Germany, Colorado, Massachusetts, South Carolina and Virginia.
He married the former Ruby Mae Stringer on June 4, 1960. To this union was born four children; Yvonne, Edward Jr. (Ted), Duane, and Kenneth. Ed was a devoted husband and father. He attended St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Annandale, VA where he was a member for 40 years.
After leaving the military where he served as a cartographer, he had successful careers in both Real Estate and Insurance. He finished his career with Lockheed Martin working on National Defense programs.
He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Ed is preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Ruby and his son Duane.
Friends will be received on Friday, October 14 from 6-8 pm at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield. A service to celebrate Edward’s life will be held on Saturday, October15 at 11 am at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 8617 Little River Turnpike, Annandale. Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Memorial Park, Annandale.
