

Gloria McKay was born in Salem, Mass to Lillian and Wilfred Poitras on July 1, 1926. She is predeceased by her siblings, Marilyn, Richard, and Peter Poitras. Gloria graduated from Salem Hospital School of Nursing in 1946, where she enrolled in the U. S. Nurse Cadet Program to train nurses for World War II. Following graduation from nursing school, Gloria met a handsome Sailor in uniform, Joseph Patrick McKay also of Salem, who would become her husband of 55 years. Joseph and Gloria
would go on to have 9 children in a loving home in Beverly, Mass.
Children and spouses include David (Ruth), Robert (Kathy), Peter (1951-2019),(Janet) John (Ann), Sheila (McKay) (Joe)Conley, Deborah (Carter Steger), Patricia (McKay) (Rick)Berry, Cynthia (McKay) (Fredy)Martin, and Janice (McKay) (Ron)Beck (1962-2017). Gloria worked as a Labor and Delivery Nurse at Salem Hospital until the age of 75. Most importantly, she attended the delivery of all her grandchildren.
Gloria lived in Rockledge, FL from 2000-2018, living with her youngest daughter Janice and family and raising their two sons, Eric and Alex Beck.
Gloria was the loving matriarch of a large, extended family that includes 20 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Her legacy of being a caregiver will live on through her grandchildren that, among them, have gone on to be doctors, lawyers, and many other professions.
Due to the Holidays and family travel, funeral services will be held in early March 2022, at St John the Evangelist Church in Beverly Mass. Date and Time to be announced at a later date. Burial will follow at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Salem, Mass, where she will be interred with her husband Joseph, and son Peter.
