James was my father's first cousin, but our immediate family knew him as Uncle Jimmy. I recall Uncle Jimmy during my college days in Maryland. He was gregarious, opinionated, and practical while we enjoyed luncheon together. You always had the feeling that Jimmy was, "good people". He spoke with respect of his wife Marilyn and with pride of his son Jamie, and I extend my condolences to them from afar. Rest in peace, Jimmy.

Jimmy was a firecracker.  And my dad's first cousin.  His quick wit and sharp sense of humor was something I always enjoyed when in his company.  The last time I saw Jimmy was many years ago when I lived in Maryland for a stint.  He took me around when I first moved there, showing me some interesting sites and even more interesting people.  Even though Jimmy and I are related, we didn't know each other that well, and he and Marilyn's kindness to me at that time in my life is so memorable.  I will always remember a couple fun nights out to eat, Jimmy's genuine laugh, and crabs and beer with him.  Wishing Marilyn and Jamie peaceful times ahead.

Even though Jimmy was my dads cousin, I always knew him as "Uncle Jimmy".  Though I didn't see him often, I always loved getting updates about him and his family.  My favorite memory of him was when I last visited the DC area on Veteran's Day.  My dad, Jimmy, Jimmy's friend, and I visited the war memorials, and then enjoyed some proper crab cakes at one of his favorite places.  I'm so glad to have known this fantastic Jasper man!

Yesterday we returned home from a 3 week vacation to hear the news about Jim. He was my first cousin, but he seemed more like an uncle , being 24 years older. After my father died in 1967, Jim was the only family member I remained close to. Before we moved to NH, we would see each other quarterly to donate blood in DC. After the move, I would visit with him and Marilyn when business trips or later leisure trips took me to the area. Over the years, some say Jim became more mellow in his approach to life. However, to me he remained the same, like a toasted marshmallow, crusty on the outside, but soft on the inside. I will greatly miss our visits together, infrequent as they were.

Jimmy was my father's oldest friend.  He often told the story of arriving in Washington from Louisiana, walking out the front door of his house on Webster Street, and finding Jasper there to greet him. They remained friends for 85 years or so.  We will miss Jimmy's quick smile and sense of humor.  He was a dear friend to all in the Harvey family.
