Jane Lent George, 100, was gently released from her earthly bounds in Savannah, Georgia on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 and went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior. Her daughter, Alice, and heaven-sent friend, Tamika were at her bedside.
Jane was born October 19, 1920 to her loving parents, Robert and Alice Lent of Towanda, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Towanda High School, CO '38 and of Mansfield University, CO ‘42. Jane then completed graduate studies in dietetics at Penn State University becoming a Registered Dietitian, initially, working at Williamsport Hospital (PA) before joining the US Army Hospital Corps and serving her country in five states.
First Lt. Jane Lent met her future husband, Capt. Sidney L. George at Fort Belvoir, Virginia where they were both stationed. They were married in 1949 and enjoyed almost 65 years of love, devotion and companionship prior to Sid’s death in 2014.
After Jane left the military she worked for the state of Pennsylvania coordinating much needed services for the less fortunate in her community.
Together, Jane and Sid raised three children and were blessed with six wonderful grandchildren.
Each was dearly loved and cherished.
Jane was a woman of quiet Christian faith. She was independent, determined, wise and practical, selfless, creative and intellectually curious. She was well read and stayed up to date on current events even as her health waned in her final months. She was always caring for others without complaint. Jane was very involved in her children’s schools and activities and baked many hundreds of cupcakes for any event her children requested! She was affectionately
referred to as “Lady Jane” by some of her children’s closest friends. It was a true term of endearment as she was a mother figure for many and her advice was sought out. She served her community as a Red Cross volunteer, was a member of the DAR since 1950 and a member of Springfield United Methodist Church (VA) and their Hope Circle, which she led for several terms.
Jane was predeceased by her parents, brother, John R. Lent, beloved husband, Lt. Col. Sidney L. George, and their children; infant daughter, Lucy Jane, sons, Kurt and Albert and their daughter-in-law, Patricia (Albert).
Jane is survived by her daughter, Alice and son-in-law Andy Chisholm of Savannah, GA and her grandchildren; Niki George (Shaker Gilbert), Megan George and Kurt George II, all of VA, Jason George (Cait Lowry) of MD, Kip Chisholm (Ashley) of GA and Jane Eliza Chisholm of SC. Additionally, her surviving extended family includes her sister-in-laws; Louise G. Ferguson, Ann G. Fisch and Roxie Lent plus many nieces and nephews. Her dear young friends Mark Lawson, Marisa Lawson, Cindy Cauley and Pratt Adams enriched and blessed her life and she was grateful for each of them.
Jane’s family extends sincere thanks to the staff of Palmetto Inn at Savannah Square, Hospice Savannah and the angels of “Team Miss Jane” from Handle With Loving Care.
Jane Lent George will be laid to rest with military honors in the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 10:00 AM.
Remembrances may be made to the Salvation Army.
