

Jeffrey G. Edwards, 59, of Alexandria, VA died on March 6, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jeff was born in Somers Point, NJ to George and Marie Edwards. He received a BA in Criminal Justice from Richard Stockton College and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. In 1999, he married Cynthia E. Garbacz of Detroit, MI.
Jeff spent over 30 years working in law enforcement, intelligence, and security in the military and federal government, as well as the private sector. He commanded Marines during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. He held leadership positions in the U. S. Navy, U. S. Coast Guard, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Department of Homeland Security, and managed a major security contract for the Department of State. He retired from the Marine Corps Reserve in June 2006. Jeff joined the Naval Criminal Investigative Service in 2001. In December 2006, he was promoted to Assistant Director for Administration and Logistics. Jeff retired from NCIS on 12 February 2014.
Jeff was an avid woodworker and loved home improvement projects. He enjoyed travel, hiking, running and weightlifting. He was an active member of Living Savior Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife Cindy, daughters Sarah and Rachel, mother Marie, sister Janice, brother Scott, and niece Wren.
A viewing will be held at the Demaine Funeral Home in Springfield on Monday March 10, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will take place at the Marine Memorial Chapel at the Marine Corps Base Quantico on Tuesday March 11, 2014 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Jeff fought a two year battle with Multiple Myeloma before his death.
