Of Annandale, on September 22, at the age of 84. Beloved husband of 64 years to Bettie B. Hayhurst; caring father of John (Brenda) Hayhurst of Disputanta, VA, Bob (Joan) Hayhurst of Chester, VA, Bettie Ann (Douglas) Wicklund of Annandale, and Richard (Joy) Hayhurst of Annandale; dear grandfather of Ashley Nugent, Jamie Spears, Robbie Ziegenfuss, John Wesley Hayhurst, James Wicklund, and Jeremiah Wicklund; great-grandfather of 6; and brother of Ann Foley of Norfolk, VA. John proudly served in the US Army for 26 ½ years, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1975. He was stationed in Japan during the occupation and the Korean Campaign from 1950-51. John was a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge #42 in Cherrydale, Knights Templar, Chapter 29, in Arlington, the American Legion, USA Retired Officers’ Association, the Crminial Investigation Division Agent Association, Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons, Chapter #35, and he was a Shriner. Friends are welcome at the Demaine Funeral Home, Backlick and Edsall Roads, Springfield, on Friday, September 27 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Interment with Full Military Honors will take place at a later date at the Arlington National Cemetery.
