Kevin Michael O’Connell, “Mike”, 62, of Springfield, Virginia passed away at his home on April 20, 2013. He is survived by; his daughter, Kari; son, Ryan; daughter-in-law, Erin; and brothers, Mike, Tom, and Dean. He is preceded in death by; his son, Andrew; mother, Kathleen Branagan; and father, Edward Cassidy.
Mike was born on September 2, 1950 in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He received his undergraduate degree in Political Science before pursuing a Juris Doctorate from Catholic University. Mike went on to become a proud husband, father of three and partner at Collier Shannon. Later on in life, Mike became the Executive Director at Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA).
Mike had an infallible zest for life, always lived to the fullest on his own terms. He had an eccentric and slightly warped sense of humor with a clear love of language and the power of the written word.
Anyone who spent time with Mike knew how much he loved his family, his Irish Heritage, his Boston Red Sox and trivia. He enjoyed working in the garden with his dog, Guinness and grand pups, Lily and Diamond.
He was respected by many... and a friend to a fortunate few. He was always ready to "fight the fight" in the best interests of those that needed his help.
He was quite simply one of a kind.
There will be a viewing at Demaine Funeral Home (on Backlick Road) on Friday, April 26th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. The funeral service will be Saturday, April 27th at 11:00. Friends and family are welcome to join the O’Connells in a celebration of Mike’s life, following the service, Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association www.diabetes.org in Mike’s name.
