

Marjorie Marie Phillips was born June 29, 1928 in Enid, Oklahoma to Fern Estelle and Ross John Samuel Griffeth. She grew up in Indianapolis Indiana and Eugene Oregon. She graduated with a B.A. from the University of Oregon. She was an inveterate traveler. Her first trip was to Palestine where at the age of two, she lived with her parents in the Old City of Jerusalem, while her father conducted research for his Yale Fellowship for Biblical Studies. With her husband she traveled each year to places in the U.S., Europe or Asia, often sending Christmas card notes of that year’s adventure. Marjorie worked for the Fairfax County Art and Culture Association. She also worked for the Leary School, a special needs school founded by family friends Al and Barbara Leary. Later she worked for the law firms Stein and Huron and Beveridge and Diamond. Her husband, Robert, predeceased her.
She will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday, March 19 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marjorie’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
