Martha Cooper Schmidt

Visitation will be held at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151 on

Wednesday, April 26 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The Funeral mass will be held at Nativity Catholic

Church on Thursday, April 27 at 11:00 am. with Fr. Bob Cilinski officiating. Burial will take place

at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Martha, aka Marty, Marse, and Namma, was born in the Ohio River farming community of

Aberdeen, Ohio to Cleon and Blanche Cooper on February 23, 1923. She graduated from

Aberdeen High School at age 16 and went to work as a Secretary for the Air Force at Wright

Field in Dayton, Ohio. She married Richard A. Schmidt in 1949, and moved to California where

she became a homemaker and mother to Carroll Ann and Catherine Jeanne. She enjoyed

cooking, sewing and keeping in touch with family and friends. She was a proud member of the

Daughters of the American Revolution.

Martha is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard, her parents Cleon and Blanche

Cooper, her brothers Hugh, Quintin, Bob; and sister Carroll.

Martha is survived by her dear brother Edwin (Buck) Cooper; daughters Carroll (Mitch) Mitchell

and Cathy (Dorsey) Drummond; grandsons DJ, Cooper and Ricky Drummond; loving nephews

and nieces and extended family.

Martha loved flowers if you are so inclined. If you wish to make a memorial contribution instead,
