Obituary of Mary W. Noon

IN THE CARE OF

Demaine Funeral Home

Miss Mary Winifred Noon of Springfield, Virginia, passed from this life on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at her apartment home in Greenspring Village Senior Living Community, of which she was a resident since Sept. 10, 2002. Born on Sunday, August 19, 1928, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the only child of the late John Anthony and Mary Gertrude (nee Robinson) Noon. Mary lived with her parents for all their lives, caring for them until their deaths in 1969, and 1974. Her father’s employment relocated the family to New Haven, Conn. in 1939, where Mary attended school, graduating in 1946 from St. Mary’s Academy, now known as St. Mary’s Catholic High School. Her education continued at both McKeown’s Secretarial School in New Haven, and in 1949 completed at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Employment highlights of Mary’s career include working for Liberty Mutual Insurance, Co. in Philadelphia, PA; the Gruen Watch Company, Cincinnati branch; Traffic Manager for WHUM Radio Station in Reading, PA.; then in the Washington DC Metro area Mary continued working as a stenographer/secretary with the U.S. Federal Government, first with General Services Administration’s Defense Materials Service; advancing to executive legal secretary at U.S. Navy’s Office of General Counsel, and finally as Confidential Assistant to Judge Hart T. Mankin, U.S. Court of Veteran’s Appeals, whereupon she retired in 1994. Miss Mary W. Noon was a joyful woman with a hearty laugh, whose curious nature and adventurous spirit were fulfilled by “sightseeing other countries”. Let it be known that Miss Mary W. Noon was a devoted friend, and a woman of deep faith and love for God, abiding in trust of the Holy Spirit’s guidance. As member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church since 1976, Mary lovingly served her faith community as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, RCIA Sponsor, and RENEW group leader. Post-retirement, Mary’s last 19 years of her vivacious life were spent enjoying being an active resident at Greenspring Village, where she had a hand in many things. The following is but a portion of Mary’s active life: Forest View third-floor captain, Cubby Stuffer, Greenspring Player’s theater group, Dining Services Committee, and Eucharistic Minister for the Greenspring Catholic Community. Miss Mary W. Noon made every person she met feel loved and worthwhile. She was an artist, poet, and prayer warrior. She will be greatly missed. Mary is survived by a variety of distant cousins in New York, Kentucky, and the beloved UK. And although not blood related, she is survived by her spiritually adopted family Gil and Pat Field of San Diego, and their children adult Christopher Field of Penngrove, CA., and Emily Field of Fallbrook, CA. Funeral Services will take place at 11 am on March 29, 2022, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1427 W. Braddock Rd, Alexandria, VA 22302. Condolences can be made at www.DemaineFunerals.com
