Mike was known for his warm smile and ability to instantly engage in conversation with those he met, showing his genuine interest and selfless concern for the well-being of others. Mike struggled with addiction and fought bravely every day to maintain his sobriety. His honesty, transparency and determination to confront his struggles and successfully maintain his sobriety led him to become a beacon of light to the AA community. As an AA spokesman, meeting leader and sponsor, he was a role model for others overcoming their struggles with addiction.
Despite having suffered a gunshot wound, several years ago during a robbery while operating a taxicab on Route 1 which resulted in the loss of his right eye and extensive brain damage, Mike maintained his optimistic outlook on life. He touched so many with his warm smile, hugs, genuine laugh, sage guidance and compassionate heart.
Mike attended West Springfield High School.
Mike left behind his beloved sibling Sharon Stutzke, former wife Corrine Bertolini and stepdaughters Christina and Cara, as well as extended family and friends. His parents, Leo and Dorothy Bertolini, and his brother, Jim Bertolini, of Springfield Virginia, preceded him in death.
Mike left us too soon; we were so blessed to have known his compassion and generosity. His smile and kind words will be missed.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be announced in the coming weeks.
