

Michael Warren Liechti, 66, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 8, 2014. He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on March 21, 1948, to Warren Cooper Liechti and Annah Carolyn (O’Brien) Liechti. Mike served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, enlisting in 1965 as a “Kiddy Cruiser” (a recruit who could join the Navy at age 17 with his parents consent). He was assigned to the USS Arlington, a major communications relay ship, where he had many duties culminating in his service as a coxswain. Mike served two tours of duty in Viet Nam and was honorably discharged in 1969.
His career in data processing began in 1969 and in 1972 he joined the Computer Operations Division of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System in Washington, D.C. Mike retired from the Board in 2003 after 31 years of service.
Mike loved sports, especially basketball and baseball, and was very involved in coaching, filming, and participating in his sons’ athletic activities. Choosing teams in the NCAA tournament became a family tradition.
He is survived by two sons: George and Vernon; his father Warren; his brother Thomas (Regina) and sister Deborah (Ronald) Burkett; his former wife Barbara; his father-in-law and mother in-law George and Eleanor Prokupek; his sister-in-laws Lark Prokupek and Nancy Leist; his brother-in- law James (Rhonda) Prokupek and five nieces and nephews: Emelye Sarah (Timothy), Ronald Michael, Jr., Melissa Jean, Rachel Elaine (Allen), Scott Thomas; and a grandniece and grandnephew: Lucy Cooper and Henry Paul.
A memorial funeral service will be held on Friday, December 5th, at 11am at Hope Lutheran Church, 4604 Ravensworth Rd., Annandale, Virginia. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 4th 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield VA.
