Mrs. Shafer was born in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania to Gilbert Blair and Margaret Wilson Blair on November 16th, 1912. She married Ebert Shafer on December 17th, 1930 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. She worked as a clerk for the Department of the Army Adjutant General’s Office when the Pentagon first opened and she continued to work there for over 20 years. She was a member of the Washington Street United Methodist Church in Alexandria, VA.
Naomi Shafer is preceded in death by her husband Ebert Shafer, her daughter Margaret Birt, her sister Laverne Wilson, and her sister Dorothy Blair Donahue.
Mrs. Shafer is survived by four grandchildren, Granddaughter Joy Fishley of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Grandson J.B. Rodgers of Brentwood, California, Granddaughter Jennifer Lucky of Clayton, California, and Grandson Jeff Rodgers of Lake Oswego, Oregon.
She will be buried with members of her family in the Anita Cemetery in Anita, Pennsylvania. The family of Mrs. Shafer wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff at The Hermitage in Alexandria, VA, who cared for her in her final years of life.
