Age 84
On Tuesday, July 19, 2016, of Annandale, VA, beloved husband of Sheila for 56 years, from complications from Parkinson’s disease. Devoted father of Christopher (Cheryl) Massey, Jonathan (Mandy Katz) and Pamela. Loving Poppa of Emily, Seth, Scott, Daisy and Laura. Also survived by sister, Torrey Ann Isaac of New York.
Richard was born and grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, and spent many summers and later vacations in upstate New York at Chautauqua Lake, where his sister still lives today.
Richard moved to Washington, DC, after serving in the U.S. Army. He obtained his master’s degree in Political Science from American University while working as a Personnel Officer for the U.S. Department of State, where he made his career for 33 years.
Richard had a contagious spirit and always enjoyed talking to people. He made everyone around him laugh. He loved many things – the Pittsburgh Steelers, tennis, shell and rock gathering, Big Band and classical music, books, history, and traveling. He adored old movies and could name even their minor actors. But what he loved most was spending time with his children and grandchildren and supporting them in all their interests and activities. His unconditional love was deeply reciprocated, and it is impossible to convey how sorely he will be missed.
A celebration of life service is scheduled for August 27th, 2016 at 10:00am at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 6800 Columbia Pike in Annandale, VA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
