

Robert Paul Hieronymus, 95 of Springfield, Virginia passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2013. He was born in Lee County Kentucky on September 3, 1917, to the late Charles Burroughs and Katherine Horton Hieronymus.
Robert Paul graduated from the University of Kentucky and received a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture in 1940. He served in the US Navy during WWII, in locations from Oahu to the Solomon Islands. On July 16, 1949, he was married to Margaret Hopkins.
Robert was a civil servant in the Federal Government. He initially worked for the Veteran’s Administration after WWII. He transferred into the US Department of Agriculture in 1952 where he continued working until he retired in 1979 as Division Chief – Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, completing 39 years of service.
For over fifty years, Robert was an active member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Annandale, Virginia. During this time, he served in many leadership roles as a member of the Board of Trustees, the Administrative Board and the lay delegate to Virginia Annual Conference – UMC. He enjoyed playing bridge, fishing, hunting and gardening with a special interest in growing roses.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, four sons: Robert (Kristy) Hieronymus, of Marietta, GA; William Hieronymus, of Falls Church, VA; David (Karen) Hieronymus, of Pinehurst, NC; and John (Laura) Hieronymus, of Gaithersburg, MD. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. He is furthered survived by one brother, Jack and Florence Hieronymus, of Carmel, Indiana and many nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters and five brothers.
The visitation will be held at Immanuel United Methodist Church from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 17th immediately followed by a Celebration of Life Service. Burial will be held at the Hieronymus Family Cemetery in Lee County Kentucky.
