Roberta "Bobbi" Freund Hanna

Bobbi was born in San Francisco, CA to Archer Frank and Charlotte Sidwell Freund on July 9, 1931. As an Army brat, Bobbi and her family moved frequently. Bobbi and her sister were horsewomen, continuing a tradition from her mother’s side of the family. She was an accomplished springboard diver, a sport she continued into her seventies.

Bobbi graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Speech and Theater from Stratford University in Danville, VA. While at Stratford, she was a member of the Delta Psi Omega dramatic fraternity. A talented actress, she was selected to apprentice for a season of summer stock in Vermont during college.

She met her future husband at the National Academy of Broadcasting. She married Eugene Hanna on February 9, 1952 at St. Mary’s Episcopal church in Arlington, VA. She was a stay-at-home mother for many years happily raising her four children. Her activities were centered on her children – art teacher, Sunday school teacher, Bluebird and Campfire Girl leader. After twenty-five years, her marriage ended in divorce.

Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, and yoga. She was a voracious reader who enjoyed all genres of writing – mysteries, non-fiction, autobiographies and political commentary among them. She also immensely enjoyed musicals the soundtracks of which often filled the house with music and a love she passed to her children and granddaughters.

Once her children were older, Bobbi held a variety of jobs outside her home. She worked for many years as the bookkeeper and office manager for Springfield Jewelers. Her longest job was as a member of the Senior Program Staff for defense contractor Computer Science Corporation for 22 years, retiring at 82 years of age.

Bobbi is preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Dawn Hanna Ramsey.

Bobbi is survived by son Brady Hanna, daughters Karen Hanna and Linda Hanna (Bob Hammann), sister Charlotte Cornelia (Connie) Sterling, and grandchildren Katy Ramsey (Tom Nigrelli) and Erin Ramsey, and her nieces and nephews.
